What is the difference between UV, UV/IR and IR3 flame detectors?
The sensing bands, and with them the immunity to false sources. A UV head such as FSL100-UV responds to ultraviolet emission from a flame; FSL100-UVIR pairs ultraviolet with infrared so both have to agree; FSL100-IR3 uses three infrared bands, and the FS24X heads are triple-IR. On the ranges we list, the listed detection distances go with that choice — 25 m for the UV and UV/IR heads, 35 m for IR3, and 60 m for the IR2/UV FS20X.
Which flame detectors are rated for a Zone 1 hazardous area?
FS20X-211-23-6 and FS20X-211-24-6 are listed as Zone 1 IR2/UV heads, in red aluminium and stainless steel respectively. The FSL100 heads — FSL100-UV, FSL100-UVIR and FSL100-IR3 — are listed for Zone 2/22. Send us the area classification from the hazardous-area drawing and we will confirm what fits before you order.
How do I functionally test a flame detector?
With the matched test lamp for the head. TL-1055 is the safe-area test lamp for FS20X and FS24X detectors and TL-2055 is the hazardous-area version; FSL100-TL covers the FSL100 heads, with FSL100-TLBT batteries, FSL100-TLBU bulbs and FSL100-TLCH chargers as consumables. FSX-A006 is the IR bulb for the TL lamps.
Aluminium or stainless steel housing?
Both are listed across the range — FS24XP-AMGXX is the aluminium (red) triple-IR head with an M25 entry and FS24XP-SMGXX is the stainless-steel version. Stainless is the usual answer where washdown, salt or aggressive process chemistry is involved; aluminium is standard elsewhere. Confirm the cable-entry thread against the gland schedule either way.
