Li-ion Tamer — Lithium-ion Battery Off-Gas Detection
Lithium-ion cells signal failure before they burn: a venting cell releases electrolyte vapour ahead of smoke, heat or thermal runaway. Li-ion Tamer detects that off-gas at the first observable stage — we supply the full range in the UK, quoted to your battery installation.
The earliest observable stage of battery failure.
Li-ion Tamer is a lithium-ion battery off-gas detection system developed and manufactured by Nexceris. It detects the electrolyte vapour released when a cell vents — a failure stage that occurs before smoke, fire or thermal runaway — and turns it into an alarm while there is still time to act.
Midland Fire Direct supplies the Li-ion Tamer range UK-wide on a quote basis: sensors, controllers, interfaces and the networking accessories that connect them, matched to the battery space they protect.
How off-gas detection works.
Off-gas detection senses the electrolyte vapour a lithium-ion cell releases when it vents — the first observable stage of the failure chain that runs cell abuse, venting and off-gassing, smoke, fire, thermal runaway. Conventional smoke and heat detection joins that chain at the third or fourth stage; off-gas sensing triggers at the second.
In effect, an off-gas sensor is the earliest practical lithium-ion fire sensor: it alarms on the vapour of a venting cell, not the smoke of one already burning. The margin between those stages is what lets a battery management system disconnect load, isolate a rack, or hold off propagation before a single cell's failure becomes a compartment fire.
The Li-ion Tamer range.
The roles are simple: sensors detect off-gas at rack or enclosure level; controllers and hubs aggregate them; relay outputs turn network events into signals a fire panel or battery management system can act on; and the switches, cabling and power supplies complete the network. All 29 SKUs, grouped:

Anywhere lithium-ion is dense enough to matter.
BESS containers and grid-scale storage are the headline duty — a battery energy storage system fire is exactly the scenario early off-gas warning exists to prevent, buying the response time that stops propagation. The same logic covers battery rooms and UPS installations, EV charging infrastructure, data centres, and marine and offshore battery spaces.
BESS fire safety and the regulatory picture.
Fire detection inside battery energy storage systems is not currently mandated by prescriptive UK regulation. The Battery Energy Storage Systems (Fire Safety) Bill — a private member's bill concerning fire safety at battery storage sites — was introduced in the Commons in October 2024 but lapsed at the end of the 2024–26 parliamentary session without becoming law (see the official bill page). In practice, specification is driven by project risk assessment, insurers and fire services — which is where early off-gas detection earns its place.

Common Li-ion Tamer questions.
What is Li-ion Tamer?
A lithium-ion battery off-gas detection system developed and manufactured by Nexceris. When a lithium-ion cell is abused — thermally, electrically or mechanically — it vents electrolyte vapour before it smokes and long before it ignites. Li-ion Tamer's sensors detect that vapour release, turning the earliest observable stage of failure into an alarm.
How is off-gas detection different from smoke detection?
It acts earlier in the failure chain. The sequence runs abuse, venting and off-gassing, smoke, fire, then thermal runaway — conventional smoke and heat detection triggers at the third or fourth stage, off-gas detection at the second. That margin is what lets a battery management system disconnect load or isolate a rack before one cell's failure propagates.
Is Li-ion Tamer a Honeywell product?
No — Li-ion Tamer is developed and manufactured by Nexceris. Midland Fire Direct supplies the range in the UK on a quote basis.
Where is Li-ion Tamer used?
Anywhere lithium-ion energy is dense enough to matter: BESS containers and grid-scale storage, battery rooms and UPS installations, EV charging infrastructure, data centres, and marine or offshore battery spaces.
How do I buy Li-ion Tamer in the UK?
Request a quotation — the range is supplied UK-wide on a quote basis. Send the rack layout, the battery space drawings or the part numbers, and we'll come back with the configuration: sensor counts, interfaces and relay outputs to suit.
