The S4-705 sits between the ceiling and the base. It is not an optional ingress-protection extra: every S-Quad visual alarm has to be installed on one to hold its EN 54-23 approval, which on a strobe-heavy loop means ordering plates by the pack alongside the heads.
A thermoplastic elastomer moulding to HB-75 flammability, 8 mm thick alone and 27 mm stacked with the base. It widens the footprint to 136 mm against the base's 115 mm, so one retro-fitted may not cover the existing ceiling mark.

Compatibility
Goes under a white S4-700 base, and is what makes a device such as S4-711-V-VAD-HPW or S4-711-VAD-HPR compliant in service. If bases are being bought at the same time, S4-701 pairs one of each in a single pack and saves reconciling a five-pack of plates against a five-pack of bases. The black plate is S4BK-705.
Installation
Fix the plate to the back box, then mount the base through it. Retrofitting to a live system means dropping every head and lifting every base in turn, so specify the plate at first fix rather than after a witness test.
