Overview

The S4T-710 is the optical-and-heat head of the Gent S-Quad Self-Test range. It occupies two analogue channels at the panel — channel 1 for forward-scatter optical smoke and channel 2 for heat — and its product plate declares EN 54-5, 7, 17 and 18. Nothing on this part sounds or flashes, so the baffle ring is black and the alarm-fault channel is unused.

One scatter angle means the panel receives a single optical value from the chamber, with no forward-to-backward pair to compare. In clean-air areas that is normally what is specified, and it keeps the device to two analogue values on the loop.

Where dust or steam is a known nuisance source, the dual-angle S4T-711 adds the backward-scatter channel this head does not carry. For the same sensing block with a tone sounder built in, see S4T-770-S.

Compatibility

Mounts on the S4-700 base, Gent's base for all Self-Test sensors, with the S4-705 IP21C plate and the S4-FLUSH semi-flush kit as associated parts. Self-Test needs the Vigilon loop of a Vigilon plus or Compact plus panel on compatible firmware.

Installation

Check the baffle ring: black is correct here, because on this range black denotes sensor and/or VAD and white denotes speech or sounder. The base takes a programmable input/output, factory-set as an unmonitored output that drives an external repeat LED with no series resistor, over no more than 15 metres.
